Outpatient treatment (OP) is the lowest level of clinical treatment available for substance use disorders and generally consists of only 1-2 hours of group and individual therapy per week. Because this level of care is intended to support individuals whose addiction symptoms have significantly stabilized, our Outpatient Treatment program at Longleaf Recovery & Wellness is usually reserved for those clients who have completed our PHP and/or IOP levels of care.

What is Outpatient Treatment?

The general goal of outpatient treatment is to provide the step-down support that will prepare clients to make a seamless transition out of treatment. At the outpatient treatment level, our clients typically receive care for a few hours each week. Individual therapy and group counseling are the primary means of treatment at the outpatient level. Clients who have been taking prescription medications to help them manage their symptoms and remain in recovery may also receive medication management services while they’re in our outpatient treatment program.

What to Expect in Outpatient Treatment

Clients participating in outpatient (OP) level of care treatment do not need to live at the facility during their care. Instead, they can live at home or in a sober-living program, while they continue to receive services in support of their evolving recovery. This allows clients to focus much of their time on work, family, and participating in peer-led recovery activities such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or SMART Recovery. OP level of care provides ongoing support while individuals firmly establish a foundation for long-term recovery.

Our outpatient treatment is often the last step in the continuum of clinical care that typically begins with residential or partial hospitalization (PHP). Since OP is intended to provide a limited set of services for individuals who have been abstinent from substance use for 90 days or more, most programs do not admit clients directly to this level of care.

Services We Offer at Our
Outpatient Treatment

Before a person begins to receive care at our outpatient treatment, we fully assess their needs to determine which programs or levels of care are right for them. In addition to outpatient treatment, we also offer the following services:

DETOXIFICATION

Our detoxification program provides the medical and therapeutic support that can help clients successfully complete withdrawal. Detox can be a vital initial step on a person’s path toward a healthier, drug-free future.

PARTIAL HOSPITALIZATION PROGRAM

Our PHP features full days of treatment without a residential requirement. During a client’s time in our PHP, their care may include individual therapy, group counseling, educational sessions, medication management services, and other elements as needed.

INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM

Clients receive three hours of care during each treatment day. Most IOP clients attend treatment three to five days per week. This flexible schedule, which includes both morning and evening sessions, enables clients to take classes, work, or volunteer while still retaining a structured connection to quality clinical services.

family programming

We understand how friends and family members can be affected when a loved one develops a substance use disorder or a mental health concern. Our family programming services are designed to promote healthier and more supportive relationships among our clients and those who are closest to them.

Aftercare planning

The day a client begins treatment at our outpatient treatment, we begin to prepare for their eventual discharge. Our aftercare planning services identify the organizations, individual providers, and community-based resources that can provide ongoing support to our clients after they have transitioned out of our care.
